Dutch research universities have noticeably improved their positions in the recently published 2013 QS World University Rankings. Six of these have made it into the top 100 universities worldwide.

The University of Amsterdam, which ranked 58th this year, took the top place in The Netherlands. This is a 4 spot increase from last year’s ranking. The five other Dutch institutions that made the top 100, Leiden University (74th), Utrecht University (81st), Erasmus University Rotterdam (92nd), Delft University of Technology (95th) and the University of Groningen (97th), have also improved their overall scores. Eindhoven University of Technology and Wageningen University and Research Centre improved their ranking as well. For complete results, see the table comparing the 2012 and 2013 QS rankings.

On May 15th, 2013, the QS World University Rankings became the first worldwide ranking to receive approval from the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG). The ‘IREG label’ proves transparency in the methodology used to assess universities and professionality in the compiling of results.
